Thought it was “Remember the Titans”, right? Well one of the major lessons in that movie plays out when I say remember the people. Each one of us has a lot of different folks cross our path every day, week, or month, not to mention a lifetime. It is impossible to remember everyone, but do you try and remember those who you interacted with?
I work with a woman who has an incredible ability to remember names and details for just about every one of the companies’ clients. I’m talking knowing who is neighbors with who, how they were referred, their kids, or where they are from originally. We are talking about over 1,200 clients, not to mention family members off each of those accounts. It really is quite impressive. She really does remember the people, professionally as well as personally.
So great for her but what does that mean for you right? I think that most all the people in our lives cross our path for a reason. No, it probably doesn’t mean literally each cashier, store clerk or delivery man but you are never sure. They may cross your path because they need a smile, kind word or maybe a sandwich from the deli you were just in. You never know why each person crosses your path, so the safest bet is to try and extend kindness across the board. Even if it is just one smile or door held open, you just never know.
Yeah, yeah you have heard it before to be kind to all. Nothing new there. Circling back to the idea of remember the people. That is where the “bonus” comes to you. Let me ask, how did you feel when you smiled at that family with the tired mother and that cute kid smiled back. How about when you offered to buy that hungry soul a sandwich at the deli, and they were so very grateful for something you take for granted?
Well, when life is running you crazy, I’d say remember the people. Remember what it felt like to help them or brighten their day. Do that and your light will shine a little brighter. Much Love!
