If you were to ask someone how big the internet or digital space is most likely they are going to tell you that is one big space. They know that it is filled with all types of information and places they you can go to watch videos and find out just about anything. I mean if you don’t know how to do something Google it right, or better yet watch a YouTube video on it.
I have a question then. Why is it that when that person encounters someone who works in digital marketing that they assume that marketer knows every platform and every inch of that said digital space. Didn’t they just tell you that the internet is one big space? 
If someone tells you, they know everything about each area of digital marketing or the internet you are either going to pay a LOT of money because they are that special or they are lying. Haha! Even in the social media world someone might know a bit about each platform, be able to post and engage but they are far from an expert in each.
Just like in any line of work you aren’t going to expect someone to be a specialist outside of their field. You wouldn’t want a general physician to perform a specialized surgery would you, no. It is not as extreme but is the same in the digital space.
What do you do with that knowledge to help your business? Well first and foremost know your clients and where they are. Know where potential clients might be as well, which could lead to a few different platforms. Then work with someone who understands that difference and can create content that will reach those existing clients and potential clients where they are spending their time at. Someone who can reach them by answering their questions, educating and helping them.
You don’t need all the flashy, trendy things, in some cases chasing after those might hurt you in the long run. If you are working with someone who isn’t an expert on Twitter, but your clients are on Facebook that’s fine. The devil is in the details, not knowing everything under the sun because after all it is one big space out there in the digital world.
