Let’s face it sometimes the only things we think of as truly productive are work related. We don’t classify productive times with chores or errands as productive. We think, hey they must get done end of story. Other life related things can fall into that category I think as well. Things that just need doing so we feel like we are almost taking away productive time (aka work) to get them done. It’s almost a relief when they are done because, “hey now I can get back to being productive.”
Well life is more than work so time well spent no matter what you are doing is a productive use of your time. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can ignore the work productivity because hey bills need paid. But don’t undervalue your other productive times. If you are managing to balance the full load of work, family, friends and “adulting” and feeling productive across the board, well done!
It’s tough to feel productive across all of your life, I feel you. Sometimes while you focus on one area it feels like the other is going to bury you like that pile of laundry. I think sometimes you need to reexamine the order in which productivity happens. Traditional 9-5 jobs might be hard for this but if you think about the full 7 days of your week it’s possible.
What do I mean? Well, if the work tasks aren’t coming to you easily at 2 pm on a Tuesday, maybe take 1 hour and run a few errands. If you work from home take that 1 hour and start the laundry and run the dishwasher. You might find it very refreshing once you are back at your desk to dive into that work. It might mean your day ends a little later so that you finish the work. But if you are attacking it with a refreshed/clear mind after knocking a few things off your list aren’t you being more productive than trying to just sludge through it?
True productivity equals balance, I think. You are more than one aspect of your life so is your productivity. Sometimes to be truly 100% productive means taking a step back and evaluating the big picture. That way you can attack things in a proper order for you and be at your best for each and every part of it. People will notice the quality of what you are doing trust me. You got this! Shine Bright and Much Love!!
