Today my “bug guy” came and as I went out to unlock my gate for him, we had a very nice chat for say 10 minutes and it got me thinking, why is it becoming more foreign to have a chat with someone. You know a few moments catching up, talking about the game last night or just the world in general. No motives on either side, just a friendly chat.
It seems like we are more apt to text or email and do not get me wrong I do probably more than my fair share of that but why not a chat? There might be a lot of reasons, some more personal than others but I think the biggest thing is we are always running or “too busy”. It seems like everyone is in a constant state of motion or working on endless to do lists and we miss the folks going right by us.
Sure, we are all busy, I feel you, trust me. As I type this I have that long to do list right beside me. However, I think about this morning and how that small conversation just put a positive spin on my morning. It kind of cleared my head of the work I had been doing and I came back feeling positive and ready to keep going.
So, what is my point you ask? That life has the inevitable tasks, and the lists does not seem to get any shorter as we are busting our butts to carve out our small piece in the world. Life also has connections though, family, friends, co-workers, social groups that we can identify easily. Do not slip on those connections that are not so easy to identify. The cashier, the guy on the street, the girl who seems confused on how to pick the best watermelon out at the store, the bug guy.
So, strike up that conversation, participate honestly if they start it. You never know what you will learn, what kind of relationship that might start or just the positive spin it might put on your day. Welcome those indirect connections and let them enhance your life. Shine Bright People and Much Love!!
