Super Bowl Sunday is fun for a lot of people for many different reasons. Some love the game, others the commercials and who can forget about the food! Another interesting aspect of the day, who is going to perform at halftime. This has turned into something that people really look forward to!
This year was interesting because it targeted to shall we say the generation “in the middle”. The older generation probably hasn’t cared for the show since the late 90’s, early 2000’s with the likes of The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Phil Collins. Let’s be honest after that when it has become one of the “big” things, the act tends to gravitate towards the younger generation. Not to say that us folks “in the middle” don’t appreciate the music of the last few years but it’s not 100% geared towards our generation.
But this year, oh man! It was funny how we heard from the older folks “worst show ever” and all those millennials “WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?” But those of us say 35-50, oh man! This show was just for us and man did we love it. We got to kick it back to our younger days and just enjoy. It was awesome!
So, what does this mean? What’s my point? That sometimes the easiest answer isn’t always the best one. What? Marketers and promoters often spend 98.5% of their time focusing right now on millennials. I get it, they are the biggest demo coming into the largest portion of their spending dollars. Don’t however sleep on the other groups, looking at the reaction from Sunday’s performance shows that those of us 35-50 ish aren’t dead yet, haha!
Instead of only thinking about the easiest demo to reach, spend some time researching and developing a relationship with a different demo for your product or service. Fostering a relationship with them will develop brand loyalty which will pay off greatly for your business. You might not be able to bring them Snoop or Dr. Dre but show them you are genuinely interested in them and what they need, and the reaction will be the same. I’m not saying forget your target demo but realize those on the fringe are worth a little time as well. Dig deeper and it will pay off. Shine Bright and Much Love.
