It’s insane sometimes how we all chase after the latest and greatest. Shiny makes it even better, right? I mean who doesn’t want the newest phone, the coolest shoes, or the freshest new fit. All those things can be fun, but they don’t define you. Sometimes it is not all the shiny things that do define you.
What are not all the shiny things you ask? They are the routine, they are how you make people feel, how you drive forward despite the odds and how you work even in the simplest of ways to make the world a better place. The not shiny things are those you do when no one is looking, that you do every day to get better or to grow and how you view the world.
Laying it out there these non-shiny things can suck day in and day out. When it’s hard to get up in the morning, when someone piles a fresh load of work on your desk as the 11th hour or when you feel like you are trying your best but it’s just not getting you as far as your friends or family.
With that realization let’s look at the actual shiny things for a moment. Reminder while they are fun, and your social media feed is FULL of them, I will remind you social media is a small glance into someone’s life and in some cases made up moments. Shiny things don’t often show you what happens the other 23 hours of the day.
So, you still want those shiny things, right? Sure, if it’s important to you, they should be a reward. I’m saying don’t take for granted the not shiny things moments. Respect that you have them and how they shape your life for the better. More people see what you are putting in and paying forward than you notice, trust me. Keep driving, keep giving and shine bright in the not all the shiny things moments. Much Love!
