We need more Joe’s

As I write this, I am remembering the life of a wonderful man that you guessed it who was named Joe.  His funeral was yesterday, and it got me thinking about the fact we need more Joe’s in this world.  We need more Joe’s

Not literally guys named Joe but a guy whose smile could light up not only his face but the room.  Someone who was willing to help you out no matter what you needed or how you messed up.  He was a plumber in a big facility, so he had a lot of things to help out with and fix, haha!  Kind and quick with a story and laugh so you literally couldn’t be in a bad mood around him.

I am willing to guess that Joe really didn’t know the extent of his impact on the world and those around him, there are a lot of people like that.  People who go around lighting up the world and doing what they can to help others and just think that is the normal way to do things.  We need more people like that, we need more Joe’s.

So, as you go through your day realize that a smile might mean more than you think to someone else.  That you are probably making an impact on someone even though you don’t realize it.  Today we strive to be like Joe because we need more Joe’s in this world.

Crazy Week

It’s so weird to have a holiday in the middle portion of a week.  Some folks are lucky to get extra days off, others maybe not so much but when you return it feels like an assembly line on full power.

It makes for a crazy week when you only have one or two days after a holiday to fit a whole week in.  No matter how hard you try to prepare prior to the holiday break it doesn’t seem to stop the flow after or all the fires that just seem to come no matter what.Crazy Week

As crazy a week as it might be, I urge you to prioritize and just keep swinging as the issues come up.  Whether it be in date order, largest to smallest or who’s bringing things to your attention just find your rhythm and plug through each step of the way like you always do.

Sure, the holiday may have only been a few days ago but seems like weeks ago because your to-do list is growing fast.  Don’t worry you got this, step by step or even minute by minute just keep going.  Show the world how bright you shine.

Just a little bit of

Imagine if you would what might happen if we all did just a little bit of something positive.  Taking the positive angle instead of the negative one.  How much impact could that make?

A bit of positive action instead of negative might take extra work or it might be scary because you don’t know the result.  Understandably you can be uncertain, but I promise you this in the end just a little bit of positive energy and work will always win out.  Just a little bit of

It is easy especially today to fire back with fear or uncertainty on social media or to buy into a story someone is telling without knowing the facts.  I encourage you though to take a moment and think about whatever the situation is that someone might be talking about.  To look deeper to know if it is true and factual or if it is based on their fear.  Adding on to fear without truth, details and facts never leads to a positive place of progress.  Understanding the full picture is always the best place to start to come to your own conclusions.  It also helps to find just a little bit of positivity to help a situation instead of hindering it.

You never know what can come out of something so learn the details, study the facts, and determine your best thoughts and evaluations on it.  And if you can, add some positive energy to help.

Don’t forget

Summer is a wonderful time of sun and fun, but it can also be kind of crazy.  To pack in all that fun and sun we often must escalate timeframes to get things done.  Time for vacation means first you must finish up job tasks, plan out the vacation, remember what you must bring, use up any food that might spoil and on and on and on.  There is one key thing I don’t want you to forget.  Don’t forget that you can say no.  Don’t forget

Say no to fun and sun, NO not what I am saying at all.  The answer is always YES to more fun and sun!  I am talking about that time leading up to your vacation or holiday break when someone tries to add just one more log to your load.  That is when you don’t forget that you can say no.

Establishing boundaries is good for everyone involved in the short and long term.  I am not saying there aren’t people out there who are just mean trying to get as much as they can out of you before you go on a vacation.  Most, however, are knee deep in their own timelines and probably have just forgotten you are headed out of town.  So don’t forget you can give them a polite reminder of when you are headed out and you will do your best to get something done either right before you leave or right when you get back.  The answer is based on your workload not theirs.

So, remember those boundaries, don’t forget it’s ok to say no and as always Shine Bright!

Take the moments

As we turn the corner to summer, I want to remind everyone to go ahead and take the moments.  Those moments that will turn into memories both for you and your family and friends down the road.  Take the moments

We all know we get crazy busy normally in life.  It is easy to look at summer and think “ugh kids are out of school now I have to keep them entertained each day as well”.  Now you must plan vacations, outings and all the things, it can be overwhelming.  It’s true there are certainly expectations when it comes to summer that can add to the old “to-do” list.  But don’t forget to take the moments to enjoy.

We only get so many days, especially the fun summer months.  The weather is nice and the options of things to do and people to see are plentiful.  Don’t rush through it though, take the moments to sit back, relax and take it all in.  Watch the kids playing in the water, enjoy the beautiful sunset, and allow yourself to be a kid again as well.

Don’t forget to enjoy your summer as well.  Yes, as adults we don’t get summer break, but we can take a break this summer.  Whether it is a day, week, or couple of weeks you deserve it.  So, sit back relax and recharge so you can shine brightly.

Time, you can’t get it back

Time is an interesting thing because once it’s gone it’s just that gone.  Sure, you can have memories of what you did with it, but you can’t get it back.

Which brings me to my thoughts for today, consider not only your time but others.  The fact that you can’t get it back is universal so if you aren’t careful with it chances are you might be wasting others time.  They can’t get it back either.  If you are the one wasting it by being late or unprepared you really are doing a disservice to others.  Time, you can’t get it back

It is key when you are in a situation where what you do affects others that you are prepared.  Make things not only worth your time but theirs as well.  People don’t like to have their time wasted.  They know they only have so much of it.  You may think it’s no big deal if it takes 30 more minutes, but you never know.  That could mean the difference of beating traffic to make a kids soccer game or meeting an old friend before they must leave town.

So always think about what’s involved in a project or task not only regarding your time but that of others involved.  Think about how things can be streamlined and efficient and I guarantee people will remember you for that effort.  Just as people can remember you negatively for wasting their time, they will remember you in a positive light for being prepared and valuing it.

Another trip around the sun

So, as I sit here before my birthday this weekend it is a great time to ponder this last year.  As they say, each year is another trip around the sun so why not take a moment to think back on what happened and what you will carry forth on your next trip.  Another trip around the sun

Like most it’s been interesting, ups and downs because that’s life.  You can’t anticipate or control what the world is going to be like day to day.  I think it’s important not to try because then you spend too much time in prevent mode instead of enjoying each day.  Enjoying the people, the experiences and that killer treat I plan on getting myself this weekend.  After all it is my birthday, and no I don’t know what it is yet.  Haha!

For this next trip around the sun, it’s time to focus on what we do have, not what we don’t have.  To focus on the people and the fun, after all there is no written guarantee on how many trips each of us have.  So have the margarita, enjoy the steak or cupcake.  Take the longer walk, go to the beach, stay up laughing with friends.  Those moments are all worth it.

Don’t forget

As we are wrapping up another month, I want to remind you not to forget.  Don’t forget about what you ask?  Don’t forget about you!  Don’t forget

Each day has its own events, activities and stressors and we all know that as we approach the end of month they can be intensified.  That is because a lot of things are due before the calendar rolls over, right?  Things not just for yourself but for your family, friends, and work.  It can get intense at times so that is why it is key that you don’t forget about you.

You can’t be at the top level and helpful to everyone and everything else if you aren’t at 100% yourself.  So, your monthly reminder here that it is not selfish to take some time, to take a walk or go and get some margaritas with friends.  Not if it helps you refresh and replenish so that you are in top form.  It will allow you to dive into all those activities with a real focus that will bring the best results.  After all you don’t want to be going through the motions, you want to be fully present.

So don’t forget about you and don’t forget to show the world how bright you shine.

Take a look around

I think one thing that has been lost a bit is an individual’s situational awareness.  We are so tied to our phones that often we walk through life without stopping to take a look around.  We all know how fun that can be in a parking lot.  Take a look around

Now let me clarify this point from the start, I am more than guilty of being tied to my phone.  In stopping to think about it though how much are we missing?  It could be simple things like that cute puppy or the gorgeous sunset, but it could be more.  It could be creating impressions that you didn’t or wouldn’t intend.

I’ll give you an example from today.  I have basically been living in a version of construction for the last two years as houses are built up around me.  Last week the most current build created a situation with their work so difficult that the trash truck just skipped us entirely.  So not hard to believe my street is eager to get our trash picked up today.  Well as the workers arrived, one lady in particular likes to park in front of my house even though it is a couple of doors down.  Not a problem but today as she parked, she did right in front of my trash cans.

Now, did she intend to get me mad, probably not.  Did she know that their work last week caused the trash truck to skip our street, I can’t say.  However, a little situational awareness is key right here.  The nearest parked car on the road was a couple of hundred feet away, the whole street has their trash cans lined up so parking in front of someone’s trash cans is obviously not the best choice.

As our society seems to be quick to jump to anger or gossip about someone’s intentions, I can’t help but think that a little situational awareness might help.  Will it solve everything, of course not.  If we stopped occasionally, to take a look around we might see we are creating impressions we never meant.  We might even see the beauty that is around us or yes, we might even find a way to make someone’s day.  So, stop take a look around and show the world how bright you shine!

Right place, right time

It’s amazing to me how unintentionally you can just be in the right place at the right time.  Decided to go to a different store, meeting ran long, or the normal road was blocked, and you had to go a different way.  It could also be as simple as stopping to get a drink or a snack at the corner store when you normally go straight home.  robert-linder-fUeGkp2kTgs-unsplash-scaled.jpg

I know, I know I just described well, life right.  These decisions and diversions happen all the time, but the question is what happens because of that.  Do you stop to look around at all, notice anything or anyone?  Sometimes that diversion can lead you to the opportunity to help someone who otherwise would be stuck if you didn’t happen upon them.  If that meeting didn’t run long, would you have been in that empty parking lot to help someone with car trouble?  Probably not but how amazing is it that you were there so they weren’t stuck.

So, when you get that idea out of nowhere to stop somewhere or some construction puts you on a different route pay attention to what is going on around you.  If your meeting is long, don’t run to your car in an angry huff, see if there might be another reason.  It’s quite possible that you might be on that route or still at the office for a reason.  You just might be the answer to someone else’s prayers.

So be observant, help out however you can and show the world how bright you shine!
