Different but the same

I write this after returning from a local drug store to get my flu shot.  When standing in line to check out with a few items I observed some frustration the cashier was experiencing.  She had called for a manager 4 times that I heard to help the gentlemen in front of me to no avail.  She had that gentlemen wait while she checked me out quickly and found out that she had been up front alone since 9 am, it was nearly 2:30 when she was checking me out.  Understandably she was frustrated and getting angry because she was the one dealing with all the people and had no idea where the store manager was that the customer needed.  We may all be different as individuals but the same in the respect and decency we deserve.

That got me to think about a standard of humanity that seems to be lacking more and more.  That standard is it doesn’t matter if the person is the manager, staff worker or janitor they all deserve the same respect and decency.  Different but the same

That applies if you are a customer or their manager.  Such as the example before, you know your worker has been working up there alone for that stretch of time and probably needs a break or at minimum some back up.  When you hear yourself being paged multiple times, you need to get up there or at least send someone else that can help.  To do less is not showing your workers the respect they deserve or the customers that you are causing to wait.

As a customer if you are being shown respect and decency, please return that to the person who is serving or helping you.  I have seen way too often people talking down to a cashier or waiter for no reason and I will NEVER understand that.  We are all humans, and I don’t know about you but if they are getting my lunch or helping me check out a new favorite item, I like this person…haha!

You are not now, nor will you ever be too big or important to show others decency and respect.  The more decency and respect you show to others, even those who can never help you potentially will show the world how truly bright you shine.

Something to think about the next time you are in line or at a restaurant.  Observe what the workers are dealing with, how they are managing and think about how you would handle their situation.  Might mean you want to show them some extra love even more by complimenting how they are handling a busy time or making sure you compliment their work or wish them a great day on your way out.  You never know how much that can mean to them when things seem to be unraveling.

Show them the love and it will rebound to you!

Shocking News

I have shocking news that I think is important for everyone to hear right now.  Are you ready?  Ok, here we go, not everything that you read or see is 100% true!

Yeah, yeah I can hear you all out there right now, DUH?!?  But is it really?  Especially when it involves tense and/or tumultuous situations like we have now?  I see a lot of journalists, not just regular people jumping on the first “facts” that come out of a situation.  Then spinning them to make the story stick.  In the era of instant media and social media that has thousands if not millions jumping on that bandwagon to the point of hysteria and potentially death threats to the person at the center of the story.  Often parts of that initial story are found to be not true and walked back.  We can’t, however, walk back the trauma people suffer in that hysteria or what it felt like to have strangers threaten your life.  Shocking News

I am not saying I have the answers or that I am always calm with all the insanity basically that we are seeing unfold on our screens or around us.  No one can be calm when people are suffering and dying and if someone says it doesn’t affect them at all, worry.

No what I am saying is when a story or situation seems to be unfolding very quickly or dangerously and people are ready to take up arms take a quick moment to breathe and step back.  Do some research to note similarities and/or differences over a few articles or releases on the subject.  Note time stamps on images and timelines so that you can develop your own informed opinion.  You might find you are right in line with those ready to take arms or you may find you want to watch the situation carefully until it fully develops.

Not saying you shouldn’t get involved or feel passionately about situations unfolding here and around the world.  You should be moved and driven 100% to the things that stir your heart.  Just saying in the world of the 24-hour news cycle, know your sources and use more than 1.  Often, they are rushing to be first to break a story or yes have their own agenda or spin on it, so verify don’t get swept up.

You will be more powerful with full knowledge and unfortunately today that takes research and work to make sure you are looking at 100% facts not something that has been made up quickly in a fast evolving situation.  Using your power and knowledge will show the world how bright you shine!

That big exhale

We all know it, that big exhale that comes from the breath we didn’t even know we were holding.  Whether it be from a big project completed, the conclusion of a tense situation or those results we were waiting for.  We don’t even realize 100% that we are holding our breath nervously to see what is happening until we let out that big exhale.  That big exhale

It’s amazing the release that comes from it, the tense way we were holding our body, the anxiety or stress tend to melt away when we know we have finished the task, a situation ends, or we know how we did on that test.  I always find it crazy that I get so tired after that big exhale, the task might not have been that physical, but the stress took its toll.

So, I am encouraging you to take it a step further than just that big exhale.  Depending on the situation or task you just got through reward yourself.  Whether that be a walk outside because it is nice, a coffee or other beverage of choice or just a few moments of mental downtime to center yourself again.  You deserve a break and a reward for getting things done no matter how stressful.

Take some time, enjoy a little treat before you jump right back into the swing of things.  Occasionally, you have to step back and polish up so the world can see how bright you shine!

Just when you think

It’s amazing just when you think you will never get clear or out from underneath whatever pile is overwhelming you, it happens.  You get clear, you can breathe and step back to see your progress.

It seems never ending, when you are working with your head down and tackling one thing after the other.  Sometimes just when you finish two things, three more get piled on you as others walk away.  A never-ending cycle that just makes you want to scream!  You keep attacking it though and just when you think it will never end, you catch a break.  That inbox comes back to a manageable number of emails.  That never-ending stack of papers clears, and you remember what color your desk is.  Haha!  Just when you think

So, this is your reminder to keep after it, even though it doesn’t seem like it trust me you got this!  Be proud of your accomplishments and how hard you work even if it seems like no one else notices.  People notice more than you think and even though they may not say it enough trust me YOU ROCK!

So as that inbox clears, those piles of paper get under control and you can actually catch a breath before the next project, do it.  Go take a walk, get yourself a treat and relax.  You’ve earned it!  Trust me, the world sees how brightly you shine so go and charge your batteries, so you continue to glow.

The power of no

It really is a simple word right, heck it is only 2 letters.  Then how is it that such a simple word can have so much power in a multitude of ways.  The power of no can make people otherwise confident and competent so afraid to say it.  The power of no can make intelligent people question their decisions or over thinking them long after they say it.  The power of no

Why is that?  At its base it’s simple.  Do you like mashed potatoes, no I don’t.  Simple right?  On the surface for base level life questions like that it is simple.  A choice yes or no, do you like it, do you want to do it, have you seen this, yes or no.  It really can’t get simpler than that.

When you take it to things with deeper meanings and actions oh boy does the power of no get strong.  What do I mean?  When you use that power to set boundaries, it is complicated!  For some folks it’s simple to set boundaries and say no.  For others, myself included it is not that simple.  The power of no can leave us tied up playing out different situations and consequences in our mind.  Let’s face it, we don’t want to let people down.  We want to help and make sure things turn out ok for everyone.  What about us though?

That power of no can leave us overloading ourselves and thinking we can help out and do it all.  Newsflash, you know where I am going with this.  We can’t hate to disappoint there but it’s true.  We get to have boundaries just like everyone else.  It might be harder to develop them, but we have that right.

So, when you reach that limit, or someone is pushing past where you want that boundary to be go ahead and say it.  Yes, stand up to the power and tell them respectfully no, you aren’t going to do that.  Use that boundary to refresh your inner light so you can show the world how bright you shine!

Dining outside

If you didn’t know today is National Eat Outside Day, a fun concept for most people, dining outside.  Obviously for others they are not a fan because of potential bugs or the heat.  Whether it be a picnic or outside seating at a restaurant dining outside can be a nice way to slow down even for an hour or so.  Dining outside

We are often in such a rush that mealtime becomes almost more of a must do than something to enjoy.  However, when you take that meal outside on a beautiful day you almost instinctually take a deep breath and slow down.  That could be to enjoy your food, listen to some music while you eat or have a wonderful conversation with whomever you are dining with.

I encourage you in this fast-paced world that before it gets too cold to take advantage of dining outside.  Find that perfect restaurant or picnic spot, get your favorite food, drink and company and take that deep breath.  I am going to guess that after that hour or two you are going to feel more energized and refreshed than if you just pounded down your food to get back to whatever you were doing.

Enjoy the simple times, the nice weather and recharge so you can show the world how bright you shine!

Does it ever feel like you are watching tv shows?

Well right now I don’t think a whole lot of us are actually watching tv shows since they are on pause with the writers and actors strikes but thinking of different tv shows.  When you scroll along on the different social media platforms does it ever just feel like you are watching a ton of different “mini” tv shows?  Does it ever feel like you are watching tv shows?

It can feel like it right?  perfect families, vacations every other week, outrageous nights out on the town along with gourmet meals left and right.  It’s either that or lives so outrageous that you are wondering when Dr. Phil is going to pop on the screen.  It’s hard not to develop FOMO or feel like you are doing something wrong with your life isn’t it.  At least for those “mini” tv shows that are all fabulous, am I right?

Come on you are trying hard in your life, keep pounding away at work, get your chores done, try and help others and do the right thing so where is your fabulous right?  Well, here is our reminder that a whole bunch of social media is not real, especially when you are watching videos of people you don’t know.  Just because it is a short form video doesn’t mean it wasn’t filmed in many takes and from just the right angle.  Plus, do you have the perspective to know what is going on in the other 95% of their lives?  No, you don’t.

Perspective is the key word for today.  We are all living on the same planet here, but we are all running different races through life.  Unless you really know someone, you don’t know what is going on inside their head or behind closed doors.  So why are you thinking down on yourself down because of the pictures or videos they are putting out to the world.  They are just a snapshot, not the full picture.

You and the life you are living are a critical part of so many things that you don’t even know.  I guarantee you are making an impact on or impressing people and you have no clue.  You are just trying to live your life right, be a good person and that is the best kind of fabulous.  So, stay true to you and show them how very brightly you shine!

Enjoy the simple times

It’s funny how we can get so distracted and upset when something unexpected throws us off schedule.  Especially if it is out of our control.  Take for example you get stuck in a big traffic mess.  It’s easy to get upset.  Enjoy the simple times

I’d encourage you though to take advantage of that simple time.  Simple time you ask?  Yes, you can’t be plugged into your computer or phone because that wouldn’t be appropriate or safe, you probably don’t want to be on your phone if your battery is low and who knows maybe you are even by yourself.  Simple in the ability to be away from distractions even if in a chaotic place such as traffic.  So maybe tune that radio to your favorite station and let those tunes take a few bpm off the old blood pressure.  Could be the time to pick up on that audio book or podcast you had to pause.  The point is don’t sit there and stew when it won’t accomplish anything, take advantage and let one of those things make that frustrating time a little simpler.

Not a big major thought for this week, just want you to find a way to enjoy the simple times.  You deserve it!

We don’t deserve dogs

There are so many things and so many ways that we don’t deserve dogs.  Their love is unconditional, their excitement pure and joy contagious.  They only live a short time compared to humans but boy to they pack more pure life in that time.  We don’t deserve dogs

There is something else that shows we don’t deserve dogs and that is their loyalty.  No matter what we do or how they are treated they come back to that loyalty and pure love and joy.  Sure, we’ve all seen those bad cases where it might take some more time and care, but they always seem to come back. They are loyal to their owners no matter what.  Dogs will alert you to danger and no matter their size they would lay themselves down to protect their humans.  Yes, it’s true we don’t deserve dogs.

So, pay attention when your dog might be alerting you to something or someone who might be off.  They always say if your dog doesn’t trust someone you shouldn’t either.  Give them an extra pet or treat today and spend some time playing with them.  They deserve it.

An interest thought

It’s an interesting thought in the midst of the World Cup excitement to study the fans.  How each country’s fans might be wearing different colored clothes and their cheers may or may not be in a different language, but the excitement and patriotism is pretty similar.  An interest thought

I know some countries are different.  They may not even wear jerseys or scarves of their country, but most do exactly that.  Before we get to the main point, I want to give a shout out one counties tradition that is pretty cool.  Have you seen how the Japanese fans after each match they attend pull out trash bags and clean up their sections of the trash made during the match.  How cool is that?

Anyway, the interesting thought and main point is how a game can bring out similar passion, love, and excitement. No matter if the fans are from Germany, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, or the USA.  All very different countries that are tied together with their love of the game and their national teams.  How cool is that?

I’d say there is something to be learned by that.  No matter what is going on in the world we can be united despite our differences for fun, excitement, and friendly competition.  Sure, it can get heated like in the USA vs. Netherlands match last night.  But did you watch after the match?  Despite a hard hit, yelling, scoring on the next play and the Netherlands player getting injured later after the game they were friends and laughing.  They were able to compete hard, represent their nation well and respect each other after the match.  How cool is that?

So, despite differences let’s harness that spirit and find what we have in common.  What can unite us in our passion, for fun or excitement.  You can compete hard but remember to be respectful afterwards,  Because what unites us is far greater and more important than what divides us.  After all it is the things that unite us that can carry us forward to a more peaceful and productive place.
