I know most of us long for a straight line when we come upon a problem that needs solved or to see what is next in our lives when faced with a huge decision. Hate to break it to you but that line isn’t always straight. In fact, I’d say outside of simple decisions that line is rarely straight.
Sure, if you are choosing what you want to eat for breakfast or what you want to wear that line is generally straight. Look at the options in front of you and pick one. It’s simple but if you are making a big decision such as changing jobs or how to deal with a more complicated personal decision that line is not going to be that straight.
I think in our quest to see a straight line because it is easy, we do two things. One we look quick and see what we think is a straight line and go for it or we get so overwhelmed by the potentials of a situation we don’t make the decision at all because we are afraid. Either of these options could possibly work or they might lead to a bad place to due fast action or keep us in a bad place because of inaction.
I am not saying acting quickly or using caution are a bad thing, certain times they can be what you need to do. I think the thing we’ve gotten too used to is tunnel vision. Seeing what we want to see or what we think is there instead of taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture.
Taking a step back isn’t inaction, it is gathering the full picture and details to see how you might fit into a potential solution to whatever problem is going on in your life. Putting in the necessary thought and vision to see that the line isn’t always straight. That you might need to take 2 steps to the left, on back and 3 forward to get to the place you want to be.
Often people see that movement as lack of progress, but I don’t think it is. I think it could just be the necessary movements to get you to a place that is so much better than where you were at that you can’t believe it. Taking those steps along a crooked road not only can get you to that amazing destination but it allows you to see the journey, meet the people and enjoy your ride. Keep moving, even if it feels sideways. Shine Bright and Much Love!!
